Firefighters tackle fire in warehouse

Firefighters from Windsor and Ascot needed back-up from Wokingham as they battled a fire in a warehouse full of water coolers.

The local crews had to break into the 100m by 50m warehouse in New Road, North Ascot, at 5.30pm on Tuesday, when smoke was spotted by a passers-by.

They found it piled high with stacks of water cooling machines.

It took more than an hour before the fire was safely out after the crews used a hose, jet, four breathing apparatus, thermal image camera and ladder.

About 10 per cent of the ground floor of the concrete building was damaged by the fire, which is believed to have been started by an electrical fault.

Concrete is notorious for retaining heat.
