Former SAS soldier and legendary poppy seller has died

Ex-SAS soldier and legendary poppy-seller Harry Merryweather has died at the age of 89.

The respected legion member died at his home in Fennels Way, Flackwell Heath, on Monday with his daughter at his side.

Mr Merryweather, whose motto was 'never give up', served with the army on home soil, the Mediterranean, North Africa and Italy.

After leaving the service he raised an estimated £40,000 for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal patrolling the streets of Flackwell Heath over the last 20 years.

Flackwell RBL chairman George O'Leary said: "He was a breed of man this country is losing very swiftly."

A report in today's Advertiser incorrectly stated Mr Merryweather's funeral was set to take place tomorrow.

It is in fact due to take place on Friday, February 3 at Christ Church, Chapel Road, Flackwell Heath at 10.30am.

See today's Advertiser for a full tribute.
