Footfall down but more shops open in Maidenhead in 2015
There was less footfall in Maidenhead town centre in 2015, compared to the year before.
Figures released by the borough’s town manager, Steph James, show that the footfall for 2014 was 5,613,473 compared to 5,471,661 in 2015, which is a decrease of 2.59 per cent.
There has also been a decrease in the footfall in January compared to the same month last year.
This January the footfall was 482,790 compared to 2015 when it was 503,307
However the footfall figures for December 2015 were higher than in 2014.
Footfall figures for December 2015 were 578,702 compared to 2014 when they were 547,845.
The rate for vacant shops has also decreased. Vacancy rates for the end of 2014 were 14.5 per cent (48 units) while 2015 was 10.9 per cent (36 units).
Approximately eight of these empty units are part of development sites so are either unfit for occupation or not on the market.
