Firefighters rescue 10 pensioners at sheltered housing fire
Firefighters are still at the scene after flames tore through a sheltered housing complex in the early hours of this morning.
They had to rescue 10 pensioners from Brill House in Cox Green and evacuate a further 24 people.
They were called out at 1.15am after an electrical fault in a cupboard caused smoke to set off the fire alarms.
Flames quickly began spreading through the complex of 29 flats in Mercia Road.
Watch manager Iain Seurre said: "Luckily we managed to rescue the residents before it was too smoke logged.
"It had the potential to be a lot worse."
He had to call out eight crews in total to deal with the blaze with firefighters coming in from Slough, Reading and Langley.
He said extensive damaged was caused to the roof and two flats.
Firefighters are still at the scene making the building safe.
