Care staff sacked at respite unit after investigation

Manor Green SchoolThree members of staff at Manor Green Residence have been sacked following an investigation into standards of care.

The respite unit, in Elizabeth Hawkes Way, next to Manor Green School, is for children with learning disabilities and closed in February last year following concerns about poor leadership and management of care.

An independent investigating officer found the national minimum standards of care including medication administration, behaviour support, care planning and supervision of staff had not been met.

The unit's head of care and two residential childcare officers were dismissed by a panel of school governors following disciplinary hearings in June and July.

Two of the three members of staff are now appealing the decision through an employment tribunal, which will be heard later this year.
