Deaf teenager launches youth club for hearing impaired

A deaf schoolboy from Holyport has set up a youth club for hearing impaired teenagers after he found it hard to mix into regular groups.

Joe Grigg, 16, is launching the DC@YC club on Sunday and already has plans for DJ sessions and cooking, art and dance classes.

"I've never gone to a local school so my friends live up and down the country which makes it very difficult to hang out with them," said Joe, of Windsor Road.

"I'm hoping this youth club will be somewhere other hearing impaired kids like me can all meet up together in an environment where we are comfortable and can make new friendships."

The youth club is for hearing impaired teenagers and their friends aged 12-17 and open to teenagers from the surrounding area.

It will be held at Pinkneys Green Community Centre, Blenheim Road, Maidenhead, from noon-3pm on the last Sunday of each month.

Entrance is £2.50.
