The new headteacher of Desborough School in Maidenhead has pledged to make the school a 'beacon of excellence.' Paul Frazer, its interim headteacher, plans to replicate the success he achieved as head of the Airedale Academy, which is in the first percentile nationally and the highest performing school in Yorkshire and Humberside. He says consistency of teaching will transform the school, rated 'satisfactory' by Ofsted, into a leading centre of education.
Camouflage-painted children at a Burnham school stood to attention as they enjoyed a visit from a special guest. Soldier Stephen Wells, a staff car driver based in Aldershot, has been visiting Priory School in Orchard Avenue for eight years. He gives pupils talks on the different types of camouflage used to protect soldiers as part of the school's 'living things' module.
Radical plans have been put forward to scrap the education system in Windsor to cope with rising future demand for places. Changing the system from three to two tiers is one of three options being suggested by a Royal Borough task and finish group to cope with pressure on senior student provision in the town. Other options include expanding Windsor Boys' School, Windsor Girls' School and Churchmead School in Datchet or building a new co-educational sixth form.
The official Olympic mascot was welcomed to Wexham today. Khalsa Primary School, in Wexham Road, was named school of the month and the visit by Wenlock the mascot was part of the prize for compiling a blog and embracing the Olympic values. London 2012 has been running a competition asking all schools in the country registered with Get Set, London 2012's official educational resource, to blog what they were doing in relation to the Olympics.

ChildLine is reminding teenagers that help is available if they feel anxious or worried about exams. Young people in Berkshire will be amongst the millions of under 18s that will sit exams this summer.Last year the ChildLine base in London received 1,202 contacts from children and young people about exam pressure. The exam period can be a very stressful and anxious time for young people and ChildLine is there to let young people know that they are not alone and that there is help available.
