INTERVIEW: Karen Dalton is Elsie Crumpet at TwyFest

Straight-talking Elsie Crumpet is hosting a bingo night with a difference.

The woman behind the OAP, Karen Dalton, has promised a night of pure entertainment for the audience.

She said: "Elsie gets very bored down at the local Mecca Bingo and decided she wanted to host a bingo night with a twist - a rock and roll bingo with better prizes."

Elsie will be joined by her two friends Ester and Gladys.

Karen added: "Unconventional bingo is full of silly stuff - it's more fun and interactive than a normal bingo night which involves just getting your head down and listening to the numbers.

"And Elsie is pretty unconventional herself."

Described as sharp-witted, outrageous yet loveable, Elsie is definitely unconventional as she leaves audiences shocked yet rolling in laughter as recalls tales of her life and desperations.

She is also prone to hula hooping and break dancing.

Karen said: "She is outrageous but very sweet - everyone that comes to see her will want her to be their own Nan."

Elsie started in 2005 following on from Karen's own take on Catherine Tate's character of Nan.

She decided to expand on Tate's creation adding characteristics that were semi- based her own Nan.

The name Elsie came from the fact that her Nan lived in Elise Jones' old house.

Marquee opens at 7.30pm with eyes down at 8.00pm and tickets are £6.

The first book is included in the price of the ticket. Visit for full details, venues and tickets.

Elsie Crumpet's Unconventional Bingo Night is at The Duke of Wellington, Twyford, for TwyFest on Thursday, May 29.
